Managing Principal
Elizabeth Mitchell currently oversees operations of Backen, Gillam & Kroeger Architects as the Managing Principal. Elizabeth was Project Manager on many notable projects, including the Canaletto Restaurant at the Venetian Resort in Las Vegas, Larry Mindel’s Il Fornaio Restaurants located in Santa Monica, Atlanta, Seattle, and Scottsdale, as well as remodels of various Il Fornaio locations, incorporating both upscale dining environments and “take-out” retail bakeries. Along with managing the various Il Fornaio restaurants, Elizabeth also performed Construction Administration of Il Fornaio on Coronado Island. Before joining the firm in 1997, Elizabeth worked with Jim Gillam at James Gillam Architects in North Beach on numerous residential and restaurant projects.
Elizabeth attended the Rhode Island School of Design where she received a Bachelor of Fine Arts and Bachelor of Architecture. She is a licensed Architect with NCARB Certification since 1993, a National AIA Member, and a member of CCAIA. Elizabeth is licensed in Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, New York, Oregon, Texas and Utah. Having worked extensively on commercial, residential, community and hospitality projects, she brings over twenty years of national and international experience to the firm. In addition to being published, Elizabeth received honorable mention in the San Francisco Waterfront competition.
