Luca Pignata
Associate
Since joining Backen, Gillam & Kroeger in 2000, Luca has been involved with many different projects ranging from restaurants, resorts, and wineries, to private custom residences. Luca was promoted to Associate in 2005 and continues to be involved on numerous projects. One such notable project is The Wine Garden, a new restaurant recently purchased by Thomas Keller and renamed AdHoc, which consists of a wine tasting bar, a dining area with outdoor patio, and gardens. Luca was also involved with the design of Evergreen Resort, a family resort located on 14 acres adjacent to the Yosemite National park. The Resort features a rustic retreat which emphasizes the environment and the historic nature of the property. Two noteworthy examples of custom residences with which Luca has been involved are the Gordon Residence and the Holcombe Kawaja Residence. The Gordon Residence is a beautiful property in Woodside that consists of a new 6,000 sq.ft. home and the renovation of the existing carriage house buildings, where colors, materials, and refined details are the inspirational elements. Holcombe Kawaja Residence is a 4,200 sq.ft. Main residence in Glen Ellen, with a Guest House, Exercise and Office Building, Tennis Court and Swimming Pool. Luca is also currently overseeing the redesign of Roche Winery, strategically situated in the Carneros wine area of Sonoma County. The winery features a series of underground barrel rooms designed to host tour and tasting events. The ground floor production and hospitality areas are part of a complex that includes recreational outdoor areas, covered portico, gardens, an open pavilion for food and wine tasting, and a lake, all of which are located in vineyard with views of the surrounding hills.
After completing his education in Architecture and Urban Design at the University of Florence, Luca worked with several firms on projects in Paris, Zurich and Milan, and brings with him years of international experience.
