Backen & Gillam Architects, is an internationally recognized architectural design firm, known for spaces such as Sundance, Esperanza, Rams Gate, Restoration Hardware (created within iconic buildings in Boston, Chicago, & New York City) and numerous celebrity and high-profile residences. The bestselling Architecture and Design book “From the Land” published by Rizzoli illustrates many of the firm’s projects.

Our firm is based in Sausalito, St. Helena, and Beverly Hills California and has openings for architects and designers to join our Sausalito studio. We are looking for self-starting individuals who share our attitudes about creating great work in a collaborative environment. Our work seeks to balance the art and science of architecture. Applicants should show experience and interest in all aspects of the design process and look forward to being part of an enthusiastic team. We are accepting applications with varying project experience ranging from large scale custom residential to large scale commercial, winery and resort experience.

Applicants should be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and demonstrate a strong aptitude in the following areas:

  • Design and technical experience
  • Construction Documentation
  • Fluency in Revit, AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, Drafting, Modeling and Rendering
  • Dexterity with hand drawing capabilities a plus
  • Hospitality experience a plus
  • Construction site experience a plus
  • Must be able to work within a collaborative team

Architectural Designer

Backen & Gillam Architects is looking for a creative, collaborative, and motivated designer/drafter to join our team in our Sausalito office. Excellent drawing, presentation, and 3D modeling skills are required.

Duties:

  •  Prepare routine architectural design and construction documents, prepare drafting and presentation work including details and dimensions, perform design computations, using 3D modeling software.
  • Provide CAD support, using AutoCAD and Revit, etc.
  • Assist in the preparation of master plans and architectural design studies; apply model building and sketching ability to assist in the design development of solutions.
  • Participate in evaluating materials, preparing architectural color and material board, and observing architectural construction in the field, applying knowledge of construction Type V.

Qualified candidates should have:

  • BA, BArch
  • Knowledge of 3D modeling software.
